AntoniaOn 5 May 2016 I celebrated nine years in recovery and my life couldn’t be more different from what it used to be.

Getting a RAPt Apprenticeship is the best thing that has happened to me, other than having my daughter and finding recovery in 2007 after 20 years of addiction.

Getting sober was a struggle – I was so far gone that even my counsellors didn’t think I was going to make it, but thank goodness I did!

After I found recovery I went to college but I could only get temporary jobs as I didn’t have any work history. I never knew when I would be working and I still had to pay rent, bills and feed my child. As a single mum, I was so worried about our future.

A friend of mine who works for RAPt and is also in recovery suggested I apply for a RAPt Apprenticeship. I knew I was suited to an office environment so I applied for an Administration Apprenticeship and in March 2015, I got it! It was one of the happiest days of my life.

It was my first proper job with regular hours and gave me the work-life balance I needed for my daughter.

RAPt provided me with great mentors and managers and once I completed my Apprenticeship in March 2016, I was offered a permanent role at RAPt. I now have a job I love and I look forward coming to work each day.

RAPt also generously funded my college education in Business and Administration which inspired me to secure further qualifications and enrol in a Bachelor of Business and Management. I started in January this year and I’m loving it!

The RAPt Apprenticeship scheme is an invaluable opportunity which has given me routine, respect for myself and financial security so that I can give my daughter a decent life. I recently took her overseas – I couldn’t have done that without RAPt!

I am so thankful to RAPt for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime.
